Derek Miles - Olympic Pole Vaulter

Guys and gals, good job tonight at the Glendale HS Track Meet! It was nice seeing everyone helping each others between jumps. Sorry I missed some of you competing today due to this thing we called "JOB", but my mind was there. Since I will not be making to practice Friday (04/01), let's be there on Monday night for practice. Remember, to improve, each of you must be willing to go outside his/her comfort zone, let's get ready for your big meet!

Free take-off drill

Free take-off drill for some of you to think about (Vivian, Fiona, April and possibly Maryanne) - watch video here! It's a 3-left run, focus on a tall steady run with good back leg extension and full swing action. For those tiring/bad weather days, work on these and help each other out.

By the way, here is a video from Patriot Pole Vault Club I found. This is the crew I went to high school with, the sorta baldy man (first guy in this video), that was my awesome coach! I hope he doesn't find out about me calling him "Bald".

Lastly, who knows of a good spot to install a rope for swing drills. Please give me a few suggestions so I can bring this up to Schultz and hopefully find a deal on a rope.

Arcadia Pole Vault Blog

I’ve just recently started this blog for all you enthusiast Arcadia pole vaulters. So, I’d like you to keep track for stuff I post up each week from now on. Please pass it along to your other pole vault teammates!

Pole vault is such a fascinating sport and there are just so much to learn outside of practices. Starting now, I’d like to keep everyone on the same page as much as I can in a weekly basis. It is not too late to set a personal goal for the season and work hard at it!

Everyone did well tonight at practice and that made me real happy, thank you! But as one always should remember “You are never quite as good as you feel you are when you are having a Great day and you are nowhere near as bad as you appear when you are having a Bad day. You are somewhere in between. Remember this and it will keep you grounded and focused!”
